Tuesday to Toronto

All the news that's fit to rant aboutI‘m off to Toronto to visit TechTV Canada and my buddy John Donabie. But first, these stories…
Ice cream was first sold in New York on this day in 1786. Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867. The Source, the first public online service, opened for business in 1979.

  1. Something else to blame Microsoft for. According to Sandvine, 80% of all spam comes from Windows computers that have been infected by trojan horse viruses like SoBig and Migmaf.
  2. Apple posted a new security update yesterday that fixes the URI vulnerability discovered in Mac OS X last month. You can uninstall Paranoid Android now.

    Airport Express

  3. Apple also announced a smaller version of its Airport 802.11g wireless networking base station yesterday. The $129 Airport Express plugs directly into the wall and includes a mini-jack for your stereo so it can play back shared iTunes.
  4. Buy a Big Mac, get a song. Starting today you get a free song from Sony’s Connect music service with every Big Mac Extra Value Meal you buy at participating McDonald’s. The Big Mac Meal Tracks promotion will run through July. Wasn’t this supposed to be an iTunes promotion originally?

  1. I’m not sure if this has been posted yet, but it was supposed to be iTunes, but McDonalds changed their minds closs to launch time.

  2. Whoops. Sorry. My Palm seems to be adding another comment with every HotSync. I’ll try to fix that for you Leo.

AirPort Express is not a smaller version of the Apple AirPort. AirPort Express can however extend the signal of your AirPort Extream, but wont just act as an AirPort.

  8. Hi Leo,
Will there be an oppurtunity to meet you when you come to Toronto.Thanks.
You will enjoy this great city.

  9. Go Leo, Go! I’d love to see you sign an agreement with TechTV Canada to continue the show(s).
Make sure the agreement allows for web access to the streaming content if you can’t get actual broadcast rights for the United States.
    YEA TEAM!

  10. Dude, lay off windows! Why are you so hell bent on bashing windows & pumping up Apple? You are an icon in the business, you should show a little more restraint.

  11. Everybody in Canada comes South to break into US TV, and you’re going North to break into Canadian TV. I’ve got to get you set up with an agency and business manager. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Hey Matt.
Leo reports the news, is it his fault that windows is full of, well, windows? I seem to recall, in this post, he also talks about a Mac vulerability. Was I the only one who noticed?
    Have fun in Toronto, Leo!
    Kelly

  13. How is reporting the tech news bashing windows? The new airport express is a pretty cool idea. I’d like to see a range comparison to the airport extreme and other WAPs.

  14. Hey leo… Is call for Help Still on in Canada? i might just move there. Comcast Canceled Call for help, Just as my confuser started to Act up. If you have the time… (and I know you probably don’t) Could you help me?

  17. Leo — Enjoy Toronto. While you’re at it, enjoy your archenemy Dodgers lose in Toronto. ๐Ÿ™‚
Jim — CFH was cancelled here too.
    Arthur in Saskatoon

  18. Nope, Call for Help is gone here too. Basically, TechTVCanada is pretty much the same as G4TTV. The only difference is that we have “Canadian Content” quotas, so shows like “Dave Chalk” air on weekends (similar format to CFH, but it just isn’t the same without Leo), as do a few other “gap fillers” (better than Thunderbirds, but not by much!) ๐Ÿ™‚
Anyhow, we all miss Leo and can’t wait for his return!

  19. Hope your trip to Canada goes well, Leo. Be safe and hurry back.
A friend of mine used to live Canada but moved down to New York City to be with
her true love. She’s a great gal and like a sister to me.

  20. anybody in NYC have the scoop on what happened to g4/TTV on time-warner cable??? the channel doesn’t even exist anymore as of this AM! ackkkkkkkkkkk!

  21. Welcome to Canada Leo,
Enjoy your time in TO Leo…I know you were also recently in Montreal as well. Two great Canadian cities to be sure but if you want to meet the friendliest bunch ‘o’geeks travel a little further west to Winnipeg….we may have cold winters but we’ve got warm hearts!
We’ll set you a place at the table, toss on a nice rib steak and throw a couple of cold Fort Gary Pales’s on the ice.
    I’m not kidding…
Regards from a fan missing your goofy mug!

  23. Oh that would be great if there was a chance to meet and greet Leo.
Please e-mail or post here if there is.
Please Leo Please, all those guest apperances for digial digs (by you an other TTV staffers) and none come here to Canada.

  24. My wife and I really miss your show Call-for-Help. We’re wondering whether TechTV is going to be around much more now that there’s less useful programming. The only shows left are The Screensavers and Fresh Gear. What happened????

  25. Would someone fill us in on what’s happening to Comcast/G4TechTV? They
are gone from Time Warner. The Screen Savers seem to be showing reruns
by looking at their website. Anyone know somethin’?

  27. Just in reguards to the Airport Express station, It WILL in fact act as a regular Airport Base Station and is not just used for extending your signal (although it can be too!) the streaming from your computer to your home stereo is also something that i think alot of people could use

  28. Waah, Leo’s comin’ to Canada again! ๐Ÿ™‚ But he’s going east again… :'(
Regarding the Radio feature… it could be pre-recorded and given to them to play on their show. But, I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
Leo, don’t forget you have a HUGE fanbase over in West Canada.
    Microtic from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA.

  29. Looks like Time Warner doesn’t have an agreement to carry it. On some cable company agreements, there is a clause in the contract allowing TWNY to drop the service if it is significantly changed. And as you know, TTV was significanly changed when Com—- bought it.

  30. A few years ago, I compared the decline of ZDTV to the decline of The Nashvill Network. TNN started out with all original programming but slowly dropped original programming for crap they bought from other sources. TNN sold out to New York investers becoming The Nothing Network. Now even that is gone. ZDTV became TechTV with less and less good programming. Now it too is gone. The Screen Savers is but a shadow of it’s former self and there is nothing else worth watching on G$. Goodby ZDTV. You leave beautful memories.
