We Like Sheep

I mowed again today. Many of you who saw my lawn tractor have asked, “weren’t the goats supposed to eat the grass?” Yes, they were. But they ate everything but the grass. We got some sheep, too, and they ate the grass and were very docile. Until the goats gave them lessons. So we decided to start with a clean slate.
A couple of months ago we gave the goats, Stella and Andy, to a goat dairy were they will be happily engaged in making overpriced cheese. One of the sheep, Sparks, had gotten bloat last Thanksgiving (note to self: never give a sheep seconds on stuffing) and had to be put down. We gave the other sheep, Jane, away to a winery where she’ll be performing grass eating demonstrations daily for the tourists.

This spring we got two more sheep, untutored in the way of the goat. They are Dorsets and, as you can see from the picture, are very adorable. The boy is named Junior. The girl is Blossom. They eat grass. They don’t eat anything else. I think these sheep have learned from the disappearance of the other animals. Unfortunately, they don’t eat nearly enough grass to eliminate the need for grass cutting implements. Hence the lawn tractor, power mower, and weed whacker. I’d like to see the goats try to eat those.

  3. Hi Leo,
Sorry to hear that you had to have one of your goats put down. My hubby says that clover grass and green alfalfa will cause bloat but that the vet can save them by doing a “stick procrdure”. The new sheep are real cute!

  7. That Leo…hedges his bets on unstable oil prices, the erm…sheer brilliance: Deere when crude is low, sheep when crude is high…and the thematics of the whole thing.

  9. Ah I recognize those sheep, they are the kind that they raised across the street from me when I was a kid. Sheep shearing time in the spring was a big hit with us kids! Watching those shearers work was fascinating, I remember it to this day, the sheep on the other hand always ended up embarrassed, well at least for a few weeks until their wool started to grow out again. As I recall they were quite good law mowers, the field they lived in always had nicely clipped grass.
Dear me no more goats Leo? We’re going to have to start calling you No Goat Laporte.

  10. Oh, dear, now I can’t make jokes about eating goat meat for dinner ๐Ÿ˜‰ Glad to hear you have the menagerie situation all settled, though. Are you going to learn how to shear sheep? I’ll but the wool (have a hankering to spin some of my own yarn and make things with it)

  11. Hey leo,
Great farm ya got. I was oh, about 7 or 800 miles from the TechTV Studios back in the first week of april. I am a member/officer in Phi Theta Kappa (The International Honor Society for the Two Year College). Anyways, I was there in Anaheim attending the International Convention. Would have liked to been able to visit the studio and maybe even attending The Screen Savers as an audience member.

  14. Leo, just a note to express my extreme disappointment that I shall no longer be able to keep up with your shenanigans on TSS thanks to the powers that be at Tech TV. Since they’ve mucked around with the times I just won’t be able to watch (and no, I can’t afford a Tivo). Here’s what I submitted to the Tech TV feedback form-
“This is not a criticism of the Screen Savers, it’s a criticism of the change in it’s time slot!
Thank you so much- you have now made it impossible for me to catch what had become my favourite show without setting the VCR! (Something I just can’t do five nights a week).
It used to be perfect- as the Dad of a 3 year old who was having a bath and getting ready for bed between 7 & 8, I could look forward to settling down with a nice cup of coffee at 10 & watching Leo, Patrick & the rest of the gang. What the hell am I supposed to do with repeats at 8am & noon??? I’m at work!
What a stupid change to make to make room for the senseless violence and insipid comments of a reject from Red Dwarf on Robot Wars. TSS is something original & worth watching- Robot Wars is not! It’s the same boring robot hitting on robot crap that 3 or 4 other channels are showing- and it’s not even original programming! It’s another crappy import from the UK (don’t get me wrong- I’ve got nothing against them- I’m British). But why move your flagship show for drivel like this? It can’t even have anything to do with saving money in repeat fees for the cast- there are the same number of repeats, just at times no-one can watch!
Thanks again (do you get the sarcasm?).
    One pissed off ex-viewer.”
Sorry Leo, it was fun but until they come to their senses I guess this is goodbye ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

As I predicted, the death spiral of TechTv has reached bottom. All that is left is to change the name. May I suggest that the new name be IdotTV. That perfectly describes all the new shows. What stupid moron came up with this crap. I seldon get home in time to watch TSS at 6PM CDT so watch the first rerun. Tonight, I tuned in to watch the retun and found the most stupid program I have ever seen on TV. I quickly scanned the schedule hoping to find a later rerun but found nothing but crap. Where does the powers that made this stupid programming decision expect to find enough morons to watch such stupid programming. One final comment. Will you let your daughter watch this?

Oh well, Morgan and Megan are gone for the time being, so we’re not missing as much as we could. I appreciate the show, and hope that sooner or later, it’s on at a time that I can watch. Good luck with the new schedule.
