Volume III

The pain. The pain.Work has begun on the 2004 edition of the Almanac. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure if I was going to do it again this year. I nearly killed myself doing the last one. This time we’ll have a talented team of elves helping, led by our own Megan Morrone, so I might survive the process. (We’ll let Megan decide whether writing a book is more or less work than having a baby.) Expect delivery in early September.
There won’t be any need for an authorcam this summer – unless Megan decides to share her agony – but I am talking with Que about doing another series of books for them, so stay tuned.

  1. Hmmm.. I’ll be excited if the book covers mostly new topics relating to computers. However I have a feeling this one is going to be a rerun of the last book. Am I wrong Leo?

  2. You know what Leo? I’m glad you’re making this book! I didnt buy the 2003 but I definately will buy the 2004 version. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Does this mean everyone registered on your site will get a free, autographed copy of all three books? Huh? Please?

  4. I’m almost certain that you’ve done this, but check out the reviews on Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com to see what the reviewers say is right and wrong with the 2003 Almanac.

  5. Dear Leo,
Please consider putting an older version of your Leo’s Almanac book in pdf or html form on the internet for the less fortunate.
    Jesus Bless You!

  6. I’m curious to know what happened to Laura Bernstein who co-authored the 2003 Almanac with Leo? Nothing against Megan.

  7. Laura works at UC-Berkeley in Public Affairs and Communications. Looks like she won’t have the time to help on the 04 edition.

  8. Sounds great! I look foreward to buying it. Just promise you won’t miss a month of TSS and CFH to do it!

  9. YES LEO! Good for you. You are one busy man- hosting TWO shows AND writing a book. That is going to be a lot- but it is going to be worth it.

  10. Hey, Leo i think its great you’re gonna do another book. I also think its awesome that you are gonna coordinate with Megan on this one. She’s a fine lady and I think she’s up to the task. when she does this, ask her to consider a cam so that we can see some of the progress. Im proud to know that two of my best TSS “friends” are working on a helpful book together. Maybe Patrick Norton will help you some too ya never know….if you havent asked him ask him Im sure he would contribute too. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, Good luck on another book Leo and may it soar as high on amazon as your other ones have. ๐Ÿ™‚ GOOOOOOOO! LEO!

  11. I want to say you shouldnt have so many win xp tips. some of us are still running 98se and cant run1/2 the programs you have in the book

  12. This is great news Leo! You’re joking around when you refer to the Almanac as “the good book” but honestly in my case it is my bible both at home and at work so I’ll be first in line to place my order!
I won’t lie and say I don’t miss the author cam, for us it was a lot and I mean a lot of fun! However, guiltily I also know it was at great expense on your part, at times the agony of writing was so evident it was heart breaking especially knowing your family was just on the other side of your office door and you were isolated from them. As much as I want another Almanac I really do hope this one is less painful for you but Sept, man that sounds tight again!
Good luck to both you and Megan! Keep us posted!

  13. Leo,
We’re very glad you are going to do another book, but have a Big favor to ask for the next book please……
We bought your last book, and although there is plenty of Info in it, we found total frustration at not being able to find what we wanted in your INDEX. So unfortunately it is sitting on the shelf pretty much unused because of it, disappointing. ๐Ÿ™
Seems our comment here is the only negative one we’ve seen anywhere, sorry, but had to say it before work begins again.
Thanks for listening, we are happy you are back on CFH and Watch TSS & CFH every day! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Awesome Leo! I hope the writing this year does go much smoother and less stressful for you! I look forward to reading your new book, as well as any others you decide to write! A new series sounds great! (Especially if there is an authorcam for them.) ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. I’m curious about Barb G’s comment. Are you talking about the 2002 or the 2003 Almanac? I found the index in the 2002 Almanac lacking, however I found the index in the 2003 a hugh improvement and a major part in what makes the book such a useful tool. When I posted my first thoughts on the 2003 Almanac on Leoville and again when I did a review on Amazon I listed it as one of the books strongest points. I’m a librarian so I tend to look at indexes with a critical eye that’s why I’m wondering which edition you’re referring to?

  16. Leo, if you’ll do the Author Cam again, I’ll be happy to do another coutdown thread. Thanks for linking to it!
By the way, why wasn’t Laura mentioned as one of your little Elves?

  17. I just hope the cover is better this time. The first book’s cover rocked..the last one…eh. Bring back Poor Leo..or maybe now it’s Rich Leo. yeah that’s it. Have the poor leo character driving a porche…wearing a pair of Ray Bans like the Men In Black. Hmm…maybe it’s not a porche..but a pc mod that looks like a porche.. C’mon Leo you gotta do it.

  18. i desired greatly to score one of those calendars that came with the almanac of last year, but when i tried to get one online, it kept redirecting me to amazon or some other reseller who didn’t have the calendars… and nobody loved me enough to get me a copy calendar or not. but now i walk around with a leoville shirt and mom (who gets in on all my tv obsessions) calls it simply “leo” (as in, “i suppouse you’re gonna want to wear leo tomorrow, eh?”) and people have finally learned that yah, to love me is to buy me techhie stuff, and possibly i shall score one for chrissymassy this year. huzzah! (woo… that was a lot of rambling, eh?)

  19. Wow Leo,this is great news. I am glad you have decided to another an Almanac Leo book!!. Will the title this time will be Rich Leo’s and Megan Morrone 2004 Computer Almanac. Are there any special editions of your book like the Calendar and DVD editions? Is there any plans for a Full Feature Movie or Made for Tech TV Movie of the First book? Who Will Play Leo?? or Megan Morrone? Will Patrick or yoshi be able to Blow up your book on National Television??
I sure i will be one the first one to Pre-order your 2004 Computer Almanac.

  20. I bought the DVD version. Well worth it. I was happy when you made the announcement on air of a 2004 almanac.
BTW, Patrick and a host of people from TechTV contributed to the current book.

  21. This is great news! I was hoping there would be an 04 edition, since the last one has provided me with hours of useful entertainment! I bought the book as a computer newbie — I mean, I’ve been using computers since I was 17 (I’m 24 now) but never got beyond knowing how to use Windows on a very basic level. Your almanac helped tease me out of my tech-phobia! Thank you!
    Looking forward —
    Joe from northern Cali

  22. Daisy,
In answer to: [I’m curious about Barb G’s comment. Are you talking about the 2002 or the 2003 Almanac?]
The 2003 Almanac. I wish could remember exactly the cases in point, but it was too long ago. For instance: Leo always referred to a subject being discussed on the show “It’s in the Book.” However, when would try to look it up we could not find “it”. Only when he gave the page it was on could it be easily found. This happened 99% of the time. Again, sorry Leo ๐Ÿ™ for negative comment.
Megan is a master of being able to refer you to the right items being discussed, soooo- have complete confidence that she will help make the next book the best ever!!
Maybe expected more of a help book than an almanac……
Actually, I think we would like that better Leo. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Best of luck to Leo & Megan,
    Barb G.

  23. I will buy this one too, Leo. Your 2003 gave me the confidence to reinstall Windows XP. Do you really read all these comments? As for Megan, I am a Megan groupie, who downloads all of her recommended programs to my computer, whether I need them or not. So if you see her and think of it, tell her I have been watching and think she is top notch; I know she has been waiting to hear that. Oh yeah, you do OK, too, Leo. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Well, I sure have enjoyed your 2003 Almanac, Leo. I’ve learned a lot from it. Can’t wait to see the 2004 edition!
