Let It Snow

Finally, a few personal pictures from our trip to New York. We all posed for this hoping it might make a good Christmas card, and it would except for the fact that I look like The Joker.
The Laportes celebrate Christmas in New York

We just barely made it out of JFK on Thursday. The blizzard was hitting hard and our plane was covered with snow. Jennifer was petrified. But we left on time and got home safe and sound, very glad for the warm California climate.

We're going to fly in THAT?

Here’s a short video of the cab ride to the airport. The cabbie was an expert in sub-Saharan African music and played us some wonderful stuff. You can hear some in the background.

He recommended Africando (Senegal), Franco (the Jimi Hendrix of the Congo), Sekuba Bambino (Mali), Salif Keita (Mali) and the album “Talking Timbuktu” by Ali Farka Toure with Ry Cooder.

  1. You don’t look like The Joker. Why that’s ridiculous! But let me ask you, did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

  2. Leo,
It’s great to see you had a good time out here in my neck of the woods! Be sure to come back and visit us again. I’m actually from NJ, but not too far from the Big Apple.
    The top photo looks good.

  3. Well, take that photo into Photoshop and fix it on up! It will be a perfect holiday card shot!
I was wondering if you were going to make it to the show on time, since I was in the middle of the snow in CT, and then I saw you walk in, all safe and sound.
BTW Leo… this was merely a snow storm, not a blizzard… you would still be in your hotel had it been a blizzard. Just a little snow was all it was… nothing special. But so very glad you arrived safely in SF. You have to come up and visit casino land the next time you head east!

  4. Now that’s a happy looking group, I say go for the Christmas card!
That cab ride looks like it was a trip and a half. Don’t blame Jennifer for being petrified, that whole deicing of plane thing sounds disconcerting not to mention taking off in bad weather. When your alone it’s scary enough but when you have your whole family with you, well I’m just glad you all got home safely.
Alas Donna is right, not a blizzard, just your ordinary, old, run of the mill snow storm on this side of the country. You haven’t lived until you experience a blizzard or a Noreaster, talk about your zero fun!
So when you coming east again?

  5. Pic is cute! Just need to lighten it up a smidge! Surely you can do that, lol!! And btw, ten inches of snow does not a blizzard make, lol!
You transplanted east coast guys forget–this was just a snow storm—a blizzard is two feet!

  6. It’s only a blizzard if you have high winds, like over 60 mph or something, not the amount of snowfall. C’mon let’s talk meterology! Let’s compare and contrast cummulus nimbus and mare’s hair skies. OK, let’s don’t.
Why didn’t you take a pic at the the skating rink at Rocky Center for ye olde Christmas card? Did you fall down that much?
Glad everyone is home safe and sound, come on back east next time you need a reminder for why you chose to live in Cali. Like that’ll ever happen. (BTW: It was 14 degrees here in B’more last night.)

  7. Yeah, get Bert Monroy to help you with the picture and you’ll be just fine. Anyway, you don’t look anything like the Joker. Happy Holidays to you, Jennifer, Abby, Henry and the goats!

  8. Great pix! Leo, you don’t look at all like a the Joker in that one! More like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. 😉 hehe But, a little touch up in Photoshop would fix that! It think it would make a great Christmas card picture!
Cute video too! Reminds me of riding with my little brother in the backseat of my parents car, many moons ago.
Maybe you should do a video Christmas card? Edit together some home video clips, and then finish it off with a Christmas message on video and burn it on a CD. Then, use that 1st picture you posted on the CD label. 🙂

  9. Nice pictures of a nice family, Leo! The Christmas theme that you’ve added to Leoville even brings a bit of the spirit of the season to me, which is unusual.

  10. Great to see you back on TSS again, Leo!
While I really enjoyed all your different stand-ins, TSS just wasn’t the same. I missed you ever-present warmth and humanity amongst all the tech gadgets. I also missed your wacky, but gentle, sense of humor. People may stand in your stead, but absolutely *no one* can take your place, Leo.

  11. So happy to see you made it out of New York safe and sound! 😀 I do hope you had a great time. It was rather funny to see you run in live on the TV show that night. 😉 Good job as always. Keep up the awesome work!

  12. Heh. Looks like you had fun. However, it doesn’t look like Abby and Henry liked that music in the cab that much… :-p

  13. I think the top photo turned out fine. You don’t look anything like the Joker. It looked like a fun time was had by all.

  14. The weather certainly looked miserable. I can’t wait to retire in July of next year. I will be able to enjoy that California weather fulltime. Anyway happy holidays to you and your family.

  15. Joker?? No way. More like The Scarecrow. (Okay, David gets off an obscure Batman ref.)Can you say “Holy Christmas scene Batman !”?

  16. hahaha… Leo.
the cab ride video had me rolling. AND the fact you told yourself you looked like the Joker

  17. Maybe it’s been too long since I watched any Batman, but I didn’t see the Joker either – I saw a guy having fun with his family. And like EB and others said, you can fix that shot right up with a little PS time, and it’d make a GREAT card!
