Selling Out

I’ve decided to try setting up a little Leoville store with a few items people have asked me for. I’ve got an autographed mug in there, boxer shorts, sweatshirts, and so on. I can’t put copyrighted TechTV images on it, so there’s no Screen Savers mug – even though that would be a bestseller – but there’s some other fun stuff.
The store is powered by Café Press. They do all the printing and fulfillment, for which they take the lion’s share of the money, but I’ll make a few bucks per item.

Let me know how you like the quality of the items, and if there’s any other Leoville merchandise you’d like to see in there.

  1. Well, well, well! So _this_ is what you’ve been up to. I was expecting to hear a lamb-related story or something. You always have some kind of interesting thing going on, you’re Mr. Productivity. 😛
Now remember that as long as you have boxers for sale, you need to represent with briefs as well, just so as not to slight anyone in the audience. I’m afraid I can’t speak to the issue of where on the briefs you’d put your pic . . . erm, let’s just leave that alone for now.
This is a great idea, I completely support it and I just put my order in for boo-koo (sp?) Leoville swag. (It’s still swag if you pay for it, right?) Anyway, I’m more than happy to support my Mayor after enjoying the fruits of his labors for so very long.
Onward and upward with the 3-YP! But we’re down to 2 years, right? :o)

  2. Dagnabbitt J, you snagged my ‘briefs’ comment! I shall, however, be purchasing ‘neither’. Muaahahahaha!

  3. Holy crap. I’ve bought vital “necessary for life” items that were less expensive than some of those items.
    Hmm…insulin or a sweatshirt…decisions, decisions…

  4. I went to the page and got this message:

  5. Well, it’s about time Leo! I’ve been waiting for something like this. Just dipped into the laptop fund (my Christmas present to myself this year) and made purchases. Can’t let an opportunity like this pass me by. Keep adding items. I’ll keep buying! What fun!! Can’t wait to take the mug to work!

  6. Great idea, Leo! I’m thinkin’ the baseball jersey and mouse pad. Regardless of what the image of you on the boxer shorts is used for, it is hilarious!
I hope you understand just how any peoples pants you are going to be in! 🙂

  7. So, I guess we’re going to see postings like “Leo is a horrible capitalist pig!” now. Well, all I can say is: Up with Capitalism! Woo hoo!

  8. Hey leo,

  9. Back in the ZDTV days their was an online store where you could get your fill of ZDTV and TSS swagg. Tech TV should Get a Clue and open the Tech TV Store.

  10. I think the Leoville store is a great idea.
I have what I think is a cool idea, but I should warn everyone that I work some weird night shifts on the weekends. So, this may just be the ramblings of a tired brain or maybe I’m dreaming all of this.
How about some products with an animated “Old Mac Leo had a farm theme ?” Leo’s already got the outfit and you know all of Farmer Leo’s animals would be spending all their time on computers. No wandering aimlessly around the farm for them. There could even be a scene with all of Leo’s family in different places around the farmyard.
Time to put my tired brain to bed. Just thought I’d share and see what everyone else thought.

  11. Awesome idea Leo! As soon as I sell enough off my “stuff” I’ll be able to buy some of your “stuff!” 😉

  12. Leo…
way total cool. After a weekend of my airport basestation upgrading crashing my dial up internet access, what a nice thing to come back to.
I’m there with my credit card.

  13. P.S. As long as you’re at it, why don’t you make goat boxer shorts? You could have a picture of Stella and Andy on the front, and “BAAAAH” in big black letters across the rear end. Extra points if they glow in the dark.
I’m sure they’ll just break down the doors for that one.
As for me, I agree with Observer. I’d rather have the insulin.

  14. Leo, what a sell out dont you get enough money? You shamelessly promote your book on the show, Its like a subliminal message. You try to sell those products with a couple pics on them(that people can get off the site print and iron/or other things they have to put pics on mugs/mouse pads.) I sure hope you didnt come up with those prices, Thats just rediculess prices, I could buy probably buy a optical mouse(with no need for a mouse pad) for the price of that one, just to have your picture, LOL.
I know some people dont have anything better to do with they’re money then give it to someone esle. A better use would be something better than those over priced products.

  15. For the page error to be corrected you’ll need to get rid of the period…(http://www.cafepress.com/leoville.) then it should come up. This problem should only affect those who tried to get to the store from the link in the emailed version of leo’s blog. The link in the post on the site works fine.

    TechTV cancels programs, cuts staff
San Francisco-based TechTV is canceling two programs, “Silicon Spin” and “AudioFile,” and cutting the evening Tech Live program from an hour to half an hour. In connection with these changes, the company laid off an undisclosed number of employees this week, a company spokeswoman confirmed. It’s only the latest piece of bad news for the struggling technology cable channel. In November 2001, the company eliminated 130 positions as part of a restructuring plan and in January Chairman and CEO Larry Wangberg stepped down to pursue other interests. The company — which is owned by Microsoft Co-founder Paul Allen’s Vulcan Ventures — will premier two new shows on April 1, 2002, “The Tech Of?,” which looks at the technology behind everyday things like food and Indy cars, and “Eye Drops,” showcasing computer animated short films.
which raises the ?… what is the best way to email/mail/etc vulcan inc and encourage support/longevity of techtv?? [i dont even get to watch it anymore since cox cable moved it from channel 62 out to 3xx sompn digital neva neva land, but wuldnt want it to go off air!!]

  17. What you need is a Leovill desk calender. A tip a day kind of thing. My prediction it will outsell the book.

  18. Hey Leo,
What up with all the changes at TechTV. Read on cnet that some shows are cancelled. Sure hope TSS is ok or getting more time.

  19. Shame to see any Tech TV shows have to die, but those two were not the best made or placed. I do wish they would go back to the 3 hour Screensavers they did for a few shows. They do need to shake what seems to be Paul Allen’s push to not have Tech TV shows knock MS products.

  20. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THE CORE OF COMPUTING–THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF WHAT MAKES OUR INTERACTION BTWN PCs SO INTERESTING, CHALLENGING, AND REWARDING IS BEST REPRESENTED BY TWO PROGRAMS: CALL FOR HELP AND THE SCREENSAVERS. THE REST OF THE PROGRAMS ARE ICING ON THE CAKE.
SO AS NOT TO CONTINUE TRIVIALIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THESE TWO SHOWS, I BELIEVE IT IS HIGH TIME TO RENAME THE SHOWS TO REFLECT THE MATURING OF THE AUDIENCE.
THE SCREENSAVERS SHOULD BE RENAMED: COMPUTING A-Z!
CALL FOR HELP SHOULD BE RENAMED: COMPUTING 101
THESE TWO PROGRAMS BLEND THE RANDOMNESS OF TALK SHOWS WITH THE VISUALIZATION OF TELEVISION–QUITE A GOOD MARRIAGE INDEED.
    SO LONG!

  21. Leo
When are you going to let us know about your upcoming appearances? Would you list them on your home page please? I agree with the other posters, more time for TSS would be awesome. I will miss Dr D, he did an interesting show and the show was very cool when he had the right guests. People seem to be missing the facts about the lineup, the new animation show debuts is not that more programming. Settle the facts please Leo what is going on at TechTV?

  22. I haven’t bought anything from Leoville, but I have bought two Comics.Com T-shirts from Cafe Press and they faded terribly after ONE washing. I always wash new clothes so they looked ancient BEFORE the first wearing! Cafe Press is a great concept, but the quality of imprint on clothing is really bad. Probably the mugs, mousepads, etc. are OK.

  23. The store looks cool!
One thing, though…that is about the creepiest picture I’ve ever seen on a pair of boxer shorts. 🙂

  24. This is great! I’ve already ordered my ballcap. What will be fun will be those times when the logo is recognized by total strangers.

  25. I’ve had a CafePress store for a while now, and am quite happy with the quality of the merchandise. The ease of setting up a store and making new products is awesome. I do want one of those coffee mugs to go with my autographed photo of Leo, which is in my computer room!

  26. This is so cool – thanks Leo! You do know, tho’, the “I’ve got Leo in my pants” jokes will run rampant for while… 😉
Can’t wait to get my hat, and shirt, and mug, …

  27. I had seen that story about Sil Spin and Audio earlier. How’s your buddy John C. Dvorak doing? Will he remain with the network or does he have other projects besides PC Mag and ZDNET? I heard his personally syndicated radio show he was doing on C|Net radio a few months back but haven’t heard it since. (ack for the life of me I cannot remember the URL for his page on it)

  28. If you consider TechTV has basically 3 shows now providing about only 5hrs of daily programming I don’t see how that could be considered doing well. I want to see TechTV do a lot “better” than that.

  29. I thought it was a joke, but true to his word, “them there is Leo Boxer’s”
    I like’um… make’s for easy shopping..
Thanks Leo, you get better everyday.. love the program.

  30. I am a loyal fan of yours and of the show but it seems as though the blog isn’t personal. It like someone else wrote it and you just gave them something and they filled it in! Sorry but other than that it’s great and I’m looking forward to other blogs
