Summer Mixer

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. I’ve been busy with the move and finishing the book – only a week late.
The Screen Savers will be dark today so we can go to the TechTV summer mixer. This year they’re giving us all drink tickets. Probably to reduce consumption. Unless they give us 10 each. Too bad I didn’t bring my digital camera to work today.

I had so much fun doing my old radio show on KGO on Sunday that I’m thinking about doing a weekly radio show again. I could do it from my house using an ISDN line and a Telos Zephyr. It’s about $7 grand to set up, but it would be a lot of fun. I’ll keep you posted if I can find an interested radio station.

This weekend the spycam will be on as I write the final words of the book. Watch me sweat. I’m taking Saturday night off, though. Two of our best friends are having birthday parties. The first is a fancy dinner in the wine country. The second is a surprise party, Moulin Rouge style. Everyone is supposed to dress “French sleazy.” And me with my bustier at the cleaners. Rats. Guess which friend is celebrating 50 and which 39.

Have a great weekend!

  1. If you definitely decide to do radio again, get a station that’s available to us poor folks on the ‘net. Whether it be CNET or some other internet streaming audio format, or simply a radio station that allows ‘net users to listen in, please go somwhere we all can listen!
Because I think a radio show is a great idea. Keep us posted on further developments!

  2. Hey Leo! Your new radio show would bring back some memories….I listened to your KGO show forever, and my dad got transfered to Texas, and so I can only see you on TechTV…(I still call it ZDTV most the time 🙂 ) Thanks for being such an inspiration to all of us in the Tech field.. 🙂

  3. Hey the radio idea sounds great. The more Leo the better. I also loved the dell parody. Keep those coming there have to be alot of commercials you guys can parody.
And on a side note. Ive got to disagree with Michael…the first one anyway. Moulon Rouge was great once you got past the drunk scene.

  4. Hey Leo, You are my favorite computer guy!!!You helped me make sense of the senseless. PS you are such a HAM. you missed your calling you should have been a comedian. Seriously you helped me lots

  5. Sure is quiet here.
This must explain why when I walked into the Post Office I saw a picture of Leo. Hmmmm, MIA (Missing in Authoring ????)

  6. Leo, I know where you can get a 10kw FM transmitter at a good price:-)
Only thing is, your gonna need 3 phase power in the closet where you hide
your new pirate radio set up………
    Jim
In the real world, I’ve used Telos before, it works great. I like Dana’s
satellite suggestion better though, much higher cool factor!

  7. Hi Léo!
For those who missed your recent KGO radio broadcast, is there anyway we can listen to it?

  8. LEO:
I think I saw you a couple of weeks ago in your car close to Stanford stadium. Is it possible? You were bling-bling in a Lexus.

  12. Hey Leo,
    I can’t believe Kate is 50.
When is your new gourmet food book coming out?

  13. Maybe Patrick is turning 39 ? Kate must be, oh, about 24. Just thought I’d say Moulin Rouge was the worst movie ever *boing, splat, crash, sound of one hand clapping* It was worse than Love Stinks, and that had French Stuart !!

  14. Hey Leo!!
This is my first post on “The Leoville” site. It’s great to be able to recieve info form you form YahooGroups, and being able to come here and check things out. Even though I know how to do the “build computer” thing, I will buy the books and the videos!!! Best wishes!

  15. To end the speculation, it’s no one at TechTV. I actually have friends in RL, too, you know!

  16. Leo,
Your book is a big mystery. Quit teasing us!
One more thing–do you hate spare time, or what??
    Have fun.

  17. Leo, that Dell parody is so hilarious. I haven’t seen it on tv yet but I watched it from the site. You guys are the perfect match for the 3 kids.

  18. there seems to be alot of it round here maybe there should be a warning or somthing?

  19. Hey Leo –
I didn’t have a chance to listen to your show on KGO – but rest assured that if you start radio again, we will have no problem getting MayorBot, LeoBot, and the old IRC channel hopping and ready for visitors.
Let me know, and I’ll contact the other previous ops … 🙂

  20. I saw the parody of the Gateway Commercial Thursday night on TSS. I thought it was hysterical. Keep up the good work. Glad to see that you finally got Martin off the couch, and put him to work again.

By the way what’s the book name?? and when it’s comming out??

  23. I AM LEO’S BIGGEST FAN! I never miss a scrensavers! and the radio thing seems like a good idea also. Make it available to New Yorkers “Upstate” also in wine country! Senica Lake winerys are the best in New York!
E-Mail me leo! I want to be a family member! I am young enough to be a son! 14 years old… 🙂
PS. Keep up the good work, your my favorite screensaver..also Megan!

  24. I saw the commercial too — not to correct you Jim, but I think it is from Dell.
Leo — that was hysterical and creative. I would love to know who’s idea that was. It is also funny – and maybe the timing was planned – that Dell has a new commercial with the same (annoying) kid.
Looks like the book is going well. Nice pictures earlier today.
    Chris

  25. I think Kate would be about the same age as Patrick, 29-30 (?). As far as 39, Louderback maybe?

  26. I liked your recent KGO show! Perhaps you could talk with (forgive me) CNET Radio? Their weekends are pretty much dead-air.

  27. Hi,Leo. It’s good to see you blogging again.I,too will miss you today, but have fun at the party tonight, and be good! And if you can’t be good, be careful! LOL!! ;<) Also enjoy the birthday parties. Sounds like FUN!

  28. I’d like to second Arthur Tham’s suggestion that you should try CNet radio. Don’t get my wrong I am a die hard TechTV fan but CNet radio fills in the times when there isn’t a TV, such as when I am commuting to and from work and driving around the Bay Area; which I often do. Heck, you already know good ole David Lawrence, and of course Chris Pirillo has often been on his show. If David can do a broadcast 5 nights a week from DC, you sure as heck could do it over ISDN or from San Francisco.
I also read where Desmond Crisis drives at the fairgrounds in your town when they have races on Saturday night (I’m not sure when, or what car type exactly). He’s another “in”
A happy 50’th to John and errr. whoever is turning 39… Kate?( as guessed above)

  29. Luckily for me I have been monitoring Leo’s writing today for his book (Saturday) and I’ve been able to chronicle a brief (30 minute) look at Leo’s writing style and his inner workings via his netcam and a certain mind reading device I picked up last week. Of course I’ve whittled 30 minutes of activity into a few minutes read as I know how busy we all are here.

Life of a techno geek guru. or i told you so not download beta software and run it on you main computer
two day ago i had major computer crash!
    how major you ask.
first i notice a problem when every i tried to rename i find windows explorer would crashed. next when i tried to view any web page i received the famous 404 error page. it affect my dsl and my old earthlink account. even the other browsers i haved install in my computer. netscape 6, opera 5, mozilla 5 got the same 404. opera reported that my winsock was corrupted. so this should be simple just reinstall windows. but that only the beginning of my nightmare. after reinstalling windows in top of it self. it fix the rename a file problem but, i could no surf the web!
so i said to I’m self ‘let tried it again reinstalled windows. after three hours later and four reinstalled of windows. i finally got my desktop back. but wait a minute there to seen to be something wrong. the Low IQ windows installer somehow combined the install with C: and D: drive nothing work. THAT STUPID windows ME installer Strew up everything.
So after a long walk i took the back cover of my computer and disconnected my D: from the IDE cable. and did a ‘clean installed of windows ME’, after half hour the install of windows went with out a hitch!. during this time i was outside talking with my roommate brian.
Of course you know, when you proform a ‘clean install on a computer. for have the pleasure of reinstalling all of your applications and restoring my data . i, siouxmoux being a Techno Geek Guru, this feat of restoring of my programs and data took about four to compblish. it help to keep your original disk or cd/dvd media, backup your document on cdr disk, have an second hard drive and this space to store documents and media files and of course watch Tech TV!! 😉
well everything is back to normal with my computer.
now i bid felwell where i off to download more beta software to mess up my computer again.

  32. Michael, I loved your “glimpse” into the mind of Leo…. I especially loved the bit where he checked his wall safe! Very, very funny. I can’t believe I missed the live cam shots of Leo eating cereal… but thanks to you, Michael, I can now enjoy the vicarious thrill of the vicarious thrill of watching Leo eat cereal. (Is this message too recursive?)
Leo: RADIO SHOW!!! Cool!!!! I would really like to be able to hear it, so please get Dell to sponsor you so it can be simulcast on the Internet, too!
I can’t get enough of the Dell commercials, I’d love to be able to hear them on the radio, too. (Just a JOKE!) (but, get a sponsor, so us poor souls who don’t live in SF can hear it, too.)
50,000 watts of clear channel, ALL LEO RADIO, coming soon.
